Lee Eui jung

Korea / Architectural Regeneration Studio / KIRA

Lee Euijung understands architecture not merely as spatial design but as a cultural medium that records time and collective memory. As the founding director of Architectural Regeneration Studio(建築再生工房) in Incheon, South Korea, he documents and renews modern architectural heritage and endangered buildings, concentrating on the city’s historic core.

He was educated at Kobe Design University in Japan, where he specialised in architectural heritage and traditional villages. In the historic district of Kurashiki he helped restore vernacular houses and took part in community-led regeneration programmes—experience that continues to inform his practice.

Since establishing his studio in 2015, Lee has completed numerous site-specific projects that reinterpret disused structures through an “architecture of reuse.” His signature work, Archive Café Bingo, transformed a 1920s ice warehouse into a community cultural hub. Subsequent projects have adaptively reused former inns, Japanese-style dwellings, schools and office buildings.

Respecting the memory embedded in everyday spaces, he seeks to renew their meaning through thoughtful regeneration. He also broadens public engagement with the built environment by leading citizen initiatives such as Dongincheon Explorer, Gyeongin Collective and Juckso.
